BAT Nr. 450 Built by FROWO in HASAG'S FACTORY

BAT Nr. 450 - Redline Kerosene lantern

Made by FROWO while working together with HASAG.

All the way from England came this Bat Nr. 450 to the United States.  This is, I suppose, a 'transitional' lantern as it was made by Frowo for Hasag after Hasag bought the lantern production from Fr. Stübgen.  This was during a very short period of time; roughly one to two years.

During this same time frame, HASAG built the FROWO 45 for Frowo and FROWO built the big lanterns for Hasag (the Bat nr. 400 and nr. 450)Thank you Hans-Werner for this information.

On one side of the fuel tank it is embossed 'BAT (Bat emblem) No. 450'.  On the fuel cap side, it is embossed 'BAT' and then another embossed Bat emblem.  Above the fuel cap, it is embossed 'MADE IN GERMANY'.  It is very faint and hard to see.  The inside of the tank and the bottom of the tank is spotless - no rust was present.

The embossed Bat globe is spectacular and large.  It is the same size as the globe that fits the FH 260/280.  SEE PHOTOS ABOVE FOR COMPARISON.

There was the original red paint on the fuel cap and around the burner cone.  It was cleaned, touched up and polished so as to save it. The lantern was too pitted to leave natural tin.  It was repainted.

    Hello Nick,

Yes you can paint your black with a high quality black paint. It does not have to be heat proof. As you can see from the photos above, sometimes you have no choice due to the amount of pitting on a lantern.

Have just been given a bat 450.
Is black paint(heatproof) acceptable when restoring it?

I have found one of these lamps with the glass intact. Whole thing completely rusted. Is it worth spending the time to restore?
