Fr. Stübgen D R Patent Model 2833
Fr. Stübgen D R Patent Model 2833

MARCH 13th, 2023 UPDATE:

The lantern now has a Egloff & Cie Swiss Burner cone and Burner installed. Miraculously, this Swiss burner fits this model Stübgen perfectly. The burner is in full working condition; the wick driver moves as smooth as silk.

 D.R. PATENT

This lantern arrived to me painted white and had a very special globe in it which is why I purchased this lantern. On the side of the fuel fount,  there is a very large and  finely embossed DR patent. It was not visible underneath the white paint.  The embossed BAT on the fuel tank is extremely small. This is the first variant of the embossed bat on mixed air lanterns.

On the top of the chimney, it has copper rivets which is a clue to the model number and age of this lantern.  Unfortunately, it is missing the burner cone and burner. Those two items were be made out of brass and not steel as in the model 2850.  The fuel cap and cap insert is all brass.

The globe you see now with the very large embossed Bat on it is appropriate to this age lantern.

RESTORATION ISSUES:  The white paint that was used on this lantern was unlike any other paint I've ever encountered before. It was almost like a porcelain enamel paint.  It took several cans of stripper to finally make some headway. Underneath the white paint was bronze/gold paint which has become so embedded in the tiny pitting on the lantern that it can not be removed.  On the inside of each air tube, it appears to be gold paint, yet it is not. It is almost like bronze/gold solder or plating of some sort.
