OTTO MÜLLER DARK ROOM FOTO LAMP - WINDMILL LOGO ON WICK DRIVER - RUBY RED CHIMNEY

OTTO MÜLLER BURNER  - DARK ROOM 'FOTO' LAMP

Beautiful example of a vintage Dark Room oil lamp.  The burner was made by Otto Müller and has his 'Windmill' logo on the wick driver.  The clear chimney on the left is a vintage replacement chimney.  The very special Ruby Red Vienna Style chimney on the right would have been the style of what originally would be mounted in a dark room lamp.  A huge thank you to Markus for getting this globe for me.

The top of the chimney is etched with a dragon on the flag (pennant)  and the following text:

"Spectroscopisch für Photographie lichtsicher befunden"  =  "Found to be spectroscopically lightproof for photography" . (Approved to provide the correct and safe light spectrum for photographic purposes.) The number 5''' describes the size of the burner.

The glass fuel fount is made from a dark 'rootbeer' colored glass and can only be looked through if you put a very bright light behind it.

There are nine DRWZ registrations of Otto Müller: 1900, 1903, 1911, 1912, 1914, 1926, 1927 (2x) and 1935.

DRWZ = the acronym D.R.W.Z. with or without punctuation stands for Deutsches Reichswarenzeichen, meaning that an item marked as such was officially registered under trademark laws inside all of the Germany states and not only locally registered as it was the case before the introduction of centralized registration.

The Otto Müller company was established sometime between
1906 and 1911.
